Do Robotics and AI have a future together? Or would they work better individually?

For many people, there is a common misconception that AI and Robotics belong to the same field. However, this is not always the case. While artificially intelligent robots do exist, one can exist without the other. 

Let’s have a look at both in more detail: 


Artificial Intelligence (AI):

AI, or artificial intelligence, refers to the ability of machines or computer systems to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, perception, and decision-making. AI is achieved through various techniques, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. AI has numerous applications across industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, and entertainment.


Robotics:

Robotics is the field of study and development of robots, which are machines designed to perform tasks autonomously or under the control of a human operator. It involves the design, construction, programming, and operation of robots for a wide range of applications in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and agriculture, as well as in research and exploration. Robotics combines various disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science to create intelligent and versatile machines.


The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Robots:

Artificial Intelligence and robotics are closely intertwined. As AI systems become more advanced, scientists are increasingly using AI in robotics due to its potential for widespread adoption in the future. When AI is applied to robotics, it provides new software capabilities to execute commands or perform specific tasks. While robots do not think independently, they can perform complex commands with a combination of pre-defined instructions.


The integration of AI in robotics allows robots to learn and adapt to new objects more efficiently, improving their performance. AI facilitates environmental sensor data recognition and enables robots to adapt to assigned applications. Many companies are currently using robotics to efficiently perform tasks that are superior to human performance.


Are AI and Robots the same?

No, AI and robots are not the same. AI refers to the intelligence exhibited by machines or software, while robots are physical machines designed to perform specific tasks autonomously or under human control. AI can be incorporated into robots to enhance their abilities, but they are distinct concepts.


Why wouldn’t you want to use Artificial Intelligence in Robotics?
